Digital waste tracking starts in October. Here is what changes for a tyre collector.
From 1 October 2026 every load received at a permitted site in England and Wales has to be filed with DEFRA within two working days.
From 1 October 2026, a permitted-site operator in England and Wales must record every load received with DEFRA’s digital waste tracking service, and file it within two working days. Scotland and Northern Ireland follow in January 2027.
For a tyre collector that means every tip becomes a filing. The paper transfer note does not go away, but it stops being the record: the record is what DEFRA holds.
TreadTrace files each tip overnight, from the counts and weights the driver already keyed at the tip site, and shows every tip’s DEFRA state in plain words in the tip log. The office does not transcribe anything. If a filing is rejected, the row says so and says why.
